My son has lived in Kaneko for two years and has loved it. He never mentioned train noise, maybe just due to the location of his room. It is a nice facility but is across the sky bridge, he didn't seem to mind. In the second year his dorm room had it's own bathroom which was also very nice. All the furnishings are new, it has nice light through windows and has air conditioning. It has nice lobby areas where kids can hang out and play games, etc. The washer and dryers seemed to work well for him too. I think the kitchen facilities for snacks are very good as well as having it's own cafe.

I don't know much about the substance issues everyone seems concerned about. I just assumed that since they are generally underage, making it illegal, and it is against school policy that would be enough to deter most people but maybe I was wrong. He has way too much to lose as far as scholarships and so I am not concerned about his choices. He has enjoyed Kaneko also because of the TIUA students who attend Willamette from Japan. Their activities often include these students and this been an area of interest for him as well.

It sounds like everyone has their own loyalties and most of the news is overwhelmingly good. I agree, Willamette has been very very good to us. You and your student will love it!

Sue
