Both the Greyhound and the Amtrak train stops at the same location:  The Amtrak Station in Portland.  To get to the airport from there, look up Portland's light rail schedule to get from downtown out to the airport.

There is also Greyhound from downtown Salem bus terminal to Portland for $14. It's posted on both Amtrak ($34)and Greyhound websites as Portland "PDX" but having never taken it, not sure how close to PDX the station actually is- but may be worth investigating. Also, it appears Greyhound is a 1 hour trip vs ~ 15 min longer on Amtrak!

I am actually fine with this, but don’t know if Mom had a specific idea in mind for this money. If not, then I think the endowment designation can stand.

Does anyone have experience with Amtrak to PDX?  Just weighing our options.  If someone already posted info, sorry that this is redundant.

Paloma,
The HUT Shuttle is a commercial service that runs every 2 hours between Salem and PDX (no other stops). It leaves from the Red Lion Hotel, which is about 2-3 miles from campus. The round trip fare is about $65 and includes free wi-fi. We have used it many times and find it very convenient and reliable. You can make reservations and pay online. www.hutshuttle.com<http://www.hutshuttle.com/> There are other options (Amtrak to downtown Portland, then transfer to the MAX light rail), and as others have mentioned, the University sometimes arranges shuttles for students. But we usually opt for HUT, as it's pretty much fool-proof! The only drawback is the schedule; they only leave in  2 hour cycles which can sometimes make for a long wait before a flight.
